What are the four states of human nature according to Reformed theology?

Answered in 1 source

The four states are: original state (innocence), depraved state, state of grace, and eternal state.

In Reformed theology, as articulated by Thomas Boston, human nature exists in four states. First is the original state, where humanity was created upright and without sin, experienced by Adam and Eve alone. The second state is depravity, where sin entered through the Fall, affecting all humanity and rendering them spiritually dead. The third state is the state of grace, wherein God restores individuals to fellowship through regeneration and sanctification. Lastly, there is the eternal state, where individuals will either experience everlasting joy with God or eternal separation based on their response to the gospel. Understanding these states helps to clarify the condition of humanity and God's redemptive plan.
