What are the results of reliance on Christ versus self-righteousness?

Answered in 1 source

Reliance on Christ brings freedom and healing, while self-righteousness leads to judgment and spiritual bondage.

The contrast between reliance on Christ and self-righteousness is stark in the gospel narrative. Self-righteousness often leads to a state of pride, legalism, and the consequent judgment of others. In contrast, reliance on Christ results in freedom and an acknowledgment of our need for His mercy. As illustrated in Luke 14 with the man suffering from dropsy, true healing comes when we recognize our sinful condition and rely wholly on Christ for salvation. By relying on Him, we can enjoy the rest and mercy that He offers, rather than remaining bound by the law and judgment of our works.
