What can hinder someone from receiving the Word of God?

Answered in 1 source

Factors like a stony heart, worldly cares, and the deceitfulness of riches can hinder someone from receiving God's Word.

Several factors can hinder an individual from genuinely receiving the Word of God. In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus identifies various types of hearts: the stony ground hearers lack depth, causing the Word to wither quickly under trials (Mark 4:5-6), while the thorny ground hearers allow the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches to choke the Word and make it unfruitful (Mark 4:18-19). These hindrances reflect a heart that has not been properly prepared by God to understand and accept the Gospel. Worldly distractions, a lack of spiritual depth, and a misplaced focus on material wealth and concerns can all distort one’s perception of God’s truth, making it difficult for them to experience true life in Christ.
