What can we learn from the Pharisees' attitude in the New Testament?

Answered in 1 source

The Pharisees' legalism serves as a warning against the dangers of self-righteousness and the rejection of true grace.

The Pharisees exemplified a misguided focus on legalism and traditions, leading them to miss the fulfillment of the law found in Christ. Their strict adherence to their own set of laws blinded them from recognizing Jesus as the Son of God, even as He performed miracles before them. This cautionary tale serves as a reminder for Christians today to guard against legalistic tendencies that can arise within our own hearts. Like the Pharisees, we too can become so engrossed in our traditions, doctrines, and formulas that we overlook the centrality of Christ's grace and His call to a simple faith. The Apostle Paul admonishes us to return to the simplicity found in Christ, urging us to keep our focus on Him and the gospel's essential message.
