What distinguishes saving faith from a mere acknowledgment of God?

Answered in 1 source

Saving faith involves a heart transformation and true reliance on Christ, not just a mental agreement.

Saving faith is characterized by a personal and heartfelt trust in Jesus Christ as the only Savior, as opposed to mere acknowledgment of God's existence. As illustrated in the sermon, many may claim to believe in God or have a general belief in Christ, yet lack a genuine relationship with Him. Saving faith recognizes one's utter sinfulness and dependence on Christ for redemption. It is not merely intellectual ascent, like the faith of the demons, who acknowledge God exists but do not submit to Him. True saving faith produces repentance and a desire for holiness, which are evident in a believer's life.
