What do flattering lips represent in the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Flattering lips symbolize deceit and emptiness, often representing the wickedness of the ungodly.

In Psalm 12, David denounces the wicked who speak with flattering lips and a double heart. Flattering lips are indicative of deception, whereby the speaker uses empty praise to gain favor or manipulate others for personal gain. This contrasts sharply with the sincere and pure words of God, which hold substance and truth. The Bible repeatedly warns against the dangers of such flattering speech, which seeks to ensnare and lead others astray. Through David’s assertion, we are reminded to be vigilant against deceitful words and to seek the truth found in God's promises.
