What does decreasing of self mean for believers?

Answered in 1 source

Decreasing of self means recognizing our utter dependence on Christ and reducing our self-importance.

The call to decrease oneself is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith. As expressed in John 3:30, the believer must recognize their limitations and pride in light of Christ's glory. Decreasing oneself involves a heart transformation where we begin to see our complete insufficiency outside of Christ. It is a work of God that results in acknowledging that while we own nothing in ourselves, we possess everything in Him (2 Corinthians 6:10). This humbling leads to greater reliance on Christ and less on our merits, emphasizing the need for grace and mercy in our daily lives and in our approach to salvation.
