What does 'effectual calling' mean in theology?

Answered in 1 source

Effectual calling refers to God drawing individuals to Himself such that they inevitably come to faith in Christ.

Effectual calling is a work of the Holy Spirit that enables the elect to respond positively to the gospel. As noted in John 6:45, Jesus emphasizes that those who are taught by God will come unto Him. This means that when God calls someone to salvation, He also equips them to respond to that call, leading to genuine faith in Christ. Unlike a general call that may be rejected, an effectual call results in the individual’s conversion, as God does not fail in His purpose to save those whom He has chosen.
