What does it mean that Christ is the Savior of the body?

When we refer to Christ as the Savior of the body, we underscore His protective and redemptive role for the church. Ephesians 5:23 teaches us that 'the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.' This means that Christ not only leads the church but also actively saves and preserves it from sin and spiritual death.
