What does it mean that God is great?

Answered in 1 source

God's greatness encompasses His supreme power, authority, and holiness above all creation.

When we speak of God's greatness, we acknowledge that He is incomparable, the creator of the universe, and the sustainer of all life. Psalm 135:5 expresses this truth, stating emphatically that the Lord is above all gods, asserting His unmatched authority over every aspect of existence. Furthermore, His greatness is exemplified in His works of creation, providence, and redemption; as demonstrated through His ability to save sinners. The hymn writer beautifully captures this when we reflect on the miracle of salvation—God's grace is displayed not just in His creation but intricately in His providence and covenant love towards His people, reminding us continually of His majesty and power.
