What does it mean that Jesus put away sin?

Answered in 1 source

To put away sin means to remove it completely and make believers free from its guilt and penalty.

When we speak of Jesus putting away sin, we refer to the total and ultimate removal of sin's consequence for those who believe in Him. In biblical terms, this act signifies a divorce between the believer and their sins, such that they are no longer held responsible for them. Just as a wife is no longer tied to her husband after a divorce, believers are no longer bound by the guilt of their sin because Christ has borne that penalty on their behalf. Therefore, His sacrifice provides a clean slate and establishes a new covenant in which believers can approach God boldly.
