What does it mean that the law exposes our sin?

Answered in 1 source

The law exposes our sin by revealing God's holiness and our inability to meet His standards.

The law serves to make us aware of our sins and inadequacies before a holy God. In Romans 7:9, Paul mentions that while he was alive without the law, sin revived through the commandment and he died. This illustrates how the law uncovers the sinfulness within us, helping us to understand our desperate need for a Savior. The rich young ruler thought he could attain righteousness through the law but failed to comprehend its spiritual depth. Jesus challenged him to see that true righteousness comes not from outward adherence to the law but from faith and reliance on God’s grace, which exposes our need for repentance.
