What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus?

Answered in 1 source

Being a follower of Jesus means submitting to Him as Lord and Savior, living according to His teachings and example.

Following Jesus is more than an intellectual agreement; it involves a radical transformation where one puts faith in Christ as both Savior and Lord. It requires abandoning previous pursuits, just as Simon Peter left his fishing business to follow Jesus. Discipleship entails learning from Christ and living in obedience to His commands. As said in Luke 9:23, it involves taking up one's cross daily and following Him, which reflects total surrender and commitment to His will. The life of a disciple is characterized by a transformation powered by grace, where believers are called not to self-seeking ambitions but to serve God and others faithfully.
