What does it mean to be a servant as a pastor?

Answered in 1 source

Being a pastor means embodying the servant leadership exemplified by Christ, putting the needs of the congregation first.

A pastor is called to be a servant leader, following the example of Christ who came not to be ministered unto, but to minister (Mark 10:45). This means that everything a pastor does should reflect a servant’s heart, prioritizing the spiritual needs of the congregation over their own desires. Pastors are tasked with feeding God's flock and leading by example, not acting as lords over His heritage but serving them humbly. This requires a constant reminder of their position as under-shepherds, remembering that whatever service they provide is ultimately for the Lord and His glory. In John 13, Jesus illustrates this humility by washing the disciples' feet, setting a model for all who serve in ministry.
