What does it mean to be created in the image of God?

Answered in 1 source

Being created in the image of God means possessing a spiritual nature that allows for fellowship with Him.

To be created in the image of God, as stated in Genesis 1:26-27, means that humanity possesses a spiritual likeness to God that distinguishes us from all other creatures. This image encompasses our capacity for rational thought, moral understanding, creativity, and the ability to engage in relationships, particularly with God. While sin has marred that image, the act of salvation restores our ability to communicate and fellowship with God. Romans 8:29 shows that those whom God predestined are to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, which signifies a restoration of this image. Ultimately, being in the image of God emphasizes our inherent worth and the purpose for which we were created: to love and enjoy fellowship with Him.
