What does it mean to be dead to sin according to the Bible?

Answered in 2 sources

To be dead to sin means that through Christ, believers are no longer under its power and have been given new life.

Being dead to sin, as described in Romans 6:2-3, signifies that believers who have been united with Christ in His death are no longer slaves to sin. This understanding provides the foundation for a transformed life in Christ. When a person places their faith in Jesus, they are baptized into His death and are called to walk in newness of life, rising with Christ. This means that sin no longer has dominion over them because they are under grace, and therefore, their allegiance shifts from sin to righteousness. In this way, the believer is empowered to live a life that reflects their new identity in Christ rather than their old self.
