What does it mean to be deluded in religious beliefs?

Answered in 1 source

Being deluded in faith means trusting in false beliefs or rituals instead of the truth of the gospel.

Delusion in religious belief reflects a deceptive reliance on works or self-righteousness that is contrary to Scripture. In 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12, God sends a strong delusion to those who do not love the truth, leading them to believe lies about their spiritual state. This delusion manifests in the belief that ritual practices can substitute for a personal relationship with Christ. Many believe they are secure in their faith because they perform religious duties, yet without true faith, their actions are an abomination to God, as seen in Proverbs 15:8. True understanding of the gospel reveals that salvation is entirely through Christ, and rejection of this truth leads to eternal consequences.
