What does it mean to be free from the dominion of sin?

Answered in 2 sources

Being free from the dominion of sin means that through Christ, believers are liberated from sin's control and penalty.

The doctrine of being free from the dominion of sin teaches that believers have been crucified with Christ and, therefore, are dead to sin. This is because Christ fully bore the penalty for sin, meaning that believers have died to its power and penalty through their representative, Christ. Though they may still struggle with sin in their lives, their ultimate freedom and identity stem from being in Christ, who has conquered sin and death. Christians live in the reality of this freedom as they walk in the Spirit.
