What does it mean to be judged according to deeds?

Answered in 1 source

Being judged according to deeds means that God evaluates each person's actions in accordance with His holy standard.

In Revelation 20:12-13, it is highlighted that the dead are judged according to their deeds as recorded in God's books. This means that God will examine everyone’s life, holding them accountable for their actions in relation to His law. For those without Christ, this is a grave reality, as it leads to condemnation. However, for believers, their sins have been judged and condemned on the cross, allowing them to be judged based on Christ's righteousness instead. Thus, the faithful can experience hope and joy knowing their sins are atoned for and they stand justified before God's judgment seat.
