What does it mean to be released from the law?

Answered in 1 source

Being released from the law means we are no longer bound to its penalties due to our justification by faith in Christ.

Paul explains in Romans 7 that believers have died to the law through the body of Christ, thus being freed from its demands and penalties. This does not mean the law is irrelevant; rather, it highlights that our identity is now in Christ, who fulfills the law on our behalf. Being released from the law signifies a transition to living under grace, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us in obedience that stems from love rather than obligation. Our righteous standing is not based on our works but on Christ’s righteousness imparted to us.
