What does it mean to be spiritually sick?

Answered in 2 sources

Being spiritually sick refers to the state of being aware of one's own sinfulness and helplessness before God, recognizing the need for redemption.

Spiritual sickness is a crucial concept in understanding the human condition before a holy God. As preached, those who are spiritually sick are those who see their inability to save themselves and recognize their need for a Savior. This acknowledgment leads to a humble dependence on Christ, who is the only physician capable of healing the soul's maladies (Matthew 9:12). The awareness of spiritual sickness should generate a longing for Christ’s healing and a pursuit of His mercy. It positions the believer in a place of grace where they understand that salvation is not through their works, but solely through God’s grace and mercy, thus driving them closer to Christ for healing and wholeness.
