What does it mean to be steadfast in faith against the devil?

1 Peter 5:8-9 calls us to be sober and vigilant, as our adversary the devil seeks whom he may devour. The instruction to resist him steadfast in faith reveals the strength and permanence of our trust in Christ. This means we recognize our vulnerabilities but lean wholly on the sufficiency of Christ’s righteousness and His sacrifice on our behalf. As we hold fast to our faith and submit to God's ways, we create a shield against the fiery darts of the wicked one. Trusting in Christ's completed work not only fortifies our stance but also ensures that any accusations of the enemy fall on deaf ears because we are covered in His righteousness.
