What does it mean to cease from our own works?

Answered in 2 sources

Ceasing from our own works means resting in Christ's finished work for our salvation instead of relying on our self-efforts.

To cease from our own works means to stop relying on personal accomplishments for justification before God. Hebrews 4:10 illustrates that the believer, through faith, has entered into God's rest, mirroring God's rest after creation. This signifies a complete reliance on Christ's atoning sacrifice, recognizing that our religious labors cannot earn favor with God. Instead, we find security and peace in knowing that Christ has fulfilled all the requirements for righteousness on our behalf. Our journey of faith is about inviting Christ's work into our lives and resting in His sufficiency.
