What does it mean to have a pure heart?

Answered in 1 source

A pure heart refers to the new heart given by God to believers, enabling them to see Him.

Having a pure heart means being transformed by God's grace, resulting in a new nature that desires Him above all. In Matthew 5:8, the promise that the pure in heart shall see God signifies that only those renewed by the Holy Spirit can truly perceive His glory. This purity is not about being sinlessly perfect, as Paul recognizes the ongoing struggle with sin (Romans 7:21), but it reflects a heart that has been cleansed and made righteous through faith in Christ. Such a heart is a gift from God, allowing believers to have a relationship with Him and anticipate seeing Him face to face in eternity.
