What does it mean to have a sinful nature?

Answered in 1 source

A sinful nature means all humans inherit a propensity to sin from Adam.

The doctrine of original sin asserts that all humans inherit a sinful nature due to Adam's transgression. Romans 5:12 clarifies this by stating, 'Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.' This means that every person is born with a natural inclination towards sin and rebellion against God, making us unable to attain His perfect righteousness on our own.

The sinful nature affects every aspect of human life, leading to spiritual death and separation from God. It necessitates the need for a Savior, as the law cannot redeem us from this condition. Understanding our sinful nature is vital for recognizing the necessity of grace and the redemptive work of Christ, who bore the penalty for our sins and offers us new life through faith in Him.
