What does it mean to have faith in Christ for forgiveness?

Answered in 1 source

Having faith in Christ means trusting in His sacrificial work for the forgiveness of sins.

Faith in Christ involves reliance on Him as the sole source of forgiveness and salvation. According to Galatians 2:20, 'The life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.' This illustrates that true faith acknowledges our inability to earn forgiveness and instead rests completely on the grace of God provided through Christ.

Moreover, faith is described as a gift from God, enabling us to believe (Ephesians 2:8). When believers place their faith in Christ, they are assured that they are justified, with God no longer counting their sins against them (Romans 4:8). This profound trust not only assures forgiveness but transforms the believer’s life, leading them towards holiness and service to God in light of His mercy.
