What does it mean to labor to enter into God's rest?

Answered in 4 sources

Laboring to enter God's rest means striving to trust fully in Christ and His finished work rather than relying on one's own efforts.

In Hebrews 4:11, we are instructed to 'labor to enter into that rest'. This labor is not about performing works to earn salvation, but rather an active faith in Christ that results in resting from our attempts to achieve righteousness on our own. This involves a deep reliance on God's grace, repenting of self-trust, and continually clinging to the work of Jesus. Just as Israel's unfaithfulness prevented them from entering the promised rest, so too can our own unbelief hinder us from enjoying the fullness of peace in Christ. Believers are encouraged to forsake self-efforts and continually look to Christ, the source of eternal rest.
