What does it mean to submit to authority according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Submitting to authority means recognizing and respecting God's ordination of all forms of authority.

In Romans 13, Paul instructs believers to submit to governing authorities because they are ordained by God. Submission denotes an acknowledgment of God’s sovereign hand in establishing order in various spheres of life, including family, work, and civil government. For Christians, submission is ultimately an act of obedience to God, as resisting authority equates to resisting God’s design. Thus, submission is a reflection of our relationship with God, demonstrating trust in His providential care and appointed order.
