What does it mean to take up our cross and follow Christ?

Answered in 1 source

To take up our cross means to deny ourselves and embrace the path of suffering and sacrifice for the sake of Christ.

Taking up one's cross is a call to radical discipleship, involving self-denial and a willingness to endure hardship for Christ's sake (Matthew 16:24). It is an acknowledgment that following Christ will often lead to trials and tribulations, as we align our lives with His teachings and example. This call includes enduring suffering, both for the sake of the gospel and in the context of personal trials, reminding us that Christ suffered before us. Ultimately, this path leads to true life, as we find our fulfillment and identity in Him (Matthew 16:25).
