What does James 4:17 teach about knowledge and practice?

Answered in 1 source

James 4:17 teaches that knowing what is good without acting on it is sinful.

James 4:17 states, 'To him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.' This verse warns Christians against complacency in knowledge that does not translate into action. In accordance with the teachings of Christ in John 13, believers must actively live out their faith rather than merely possess a theoretical understanding of it. Such knowledge, when unaccompanied by action, only amplifies guilt and signifies a disconnect from the essence of true religion. Practicing what we know is vital for genuine spiritual growth and a loving response to the grace received through Christ.
