What does Paul mean when he says the law brings death?

Answered in 1 source

Paul indicates that the law reveals sin and leads to death because it exposes our inability to achieve righteousness.

In Romans 7, Paul articulates that the law, while holy and good, also brings about death because it reveals our sinfulness. He explains that sin uses the law to awaken our awareness of its presence in our lives, pointing out our failures and inability to meet God's standards. This confrontation with the law produces a realization of our guilt and condemnation, leading us to recognize our need for salvation. Thus, although the law is intended to guide us, it ultimately serves to show that we are dead in sin and cannot attain righteousness on our own, driving us to seek life and reconciliation through Christ.
