What does salvation by works produce?

Answered in 1 source

Salvation by works produces fear and a guilty conscience, as it is ultimately insufficient to satisfy God's holiness.

Reliance on salvation by works leads to fear, as one realizes that their efforts can never truly fulfill the demands of God's holiness. The brothers feared when brought to Joseph's house because they believed their past wrongs were too significant to excuse. Like them, many live under the burden of guilt, attempting to earn their way to God, only to realize that their works are lacking. Scripture affirms that no amount of effort can quiet a guilty conscience; only the blood of Christ suffices to remove sin and provide peace. Thus, trusting in works leads to fear rather than the joy found in grace.
