What does Scripture say about the role of the Holy Spirit in faith?

Answered in 1 source

The Holy Spirit is essential for enabling true faith, as He regenerates the heart to believe in Christ.

Scripture attests that the Holy Spirit plays a vital role in the life of the believer, particularly in the gift of faith. In John 3, Jesus explains the necessity of being born again by the Spirit to perceive the Kingdom of God. True faith is not merely intellectual assent but is a gift from God that the Spirit imparts to those chosen for salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). In Matthew 16, we see the contrast between those who naturally discern signs and those who can recognize the truth of Christ through spiritual revelation. It is the Holy Spirit that opens the eyes of the spiritually blind and enables them to trust exclusively in the Word of God, which leads to salvation. Thus, the work of the Spirit is fundamental in the life of believers.
