What does the Bible mean by being good citizens?

Answered in 1 source

Being good citizens means submitting to earthly authorities while honoring God’s laws.

The Bible instructs believers to submit to governing authorities as they are established by God for order and justice (Romans 13:1-7). This submission entails respecting laws and customs unless they directly oppose God's commands. Good citizenship reflects a Christian's commitment to the community and showcases the integrity of Christ's teachings. By being exemplary citizens, Christians can live out their faith in tangible ways that lead others to glorify God, even in the midst of persecution. The essence of this teaching illustrates that while we have spiritual freedom, it does not give us license to disregard civil responsibilities or act in disobedience to lawful authority (1 Peter 2:13-15).
