What does the Bible say about adoption and regeneration?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that adoption is subsequent to regeneration and is the result of the work of the Holy Spirit.

In Romans 8:14-15, Paul shows that regeneration restores our relationship to God, while adoption gives us a new identity as His children. This relationship is only available through the Spirit of God, who leads us to cry out 'Abba, Father'. This is a significant progression, as regeneration happens first, restoring our relationship with God, and then adoption follows, giving us assurance of our identity in Christ.
