What does the Bible say about adversity and affliction?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that adversity and affliction are gifts from God meant to instruct and grow us spiritually.

In Isaiah 30:20-21, the Lord describes giving us the 'bread of affliction' and the 'water of adversity.' These are not merely hardships but are spiritually nourishing and necessary for our growth. Just as parents guide their children for their benefit, God uses these hardships as tools to mold us and prepare us for our eternal home. Through trials, we gain strength, character, and a deeper reliance on God as we walk the narrow path that leads to everlasting life.
