What does the Bible say about asking God for signs?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible shows it's okay to ask God for a sign, as long as it's perceived through faith.

Psalm 86:17 illustrates that asking God for a sign, or a 'token for good', is acceptable when understood through the lens of faith. Unlike a wicked generation that demands physical proof, the psalmist David demonstrates that genuine requests for confirmation from God are valid as long as they are discerned by the eye of faith. In contrast to physical sight, which can be misleading, faith provides a reliable assurance of God's promises and presence.
