What does the Bible say about bearing fruit as a Christian?

Answered in 5 sources

The Bible teaches that true Christians, or 'wheat', will bear good fruit as evidence of their faith, while 'chaff' will not bear fruit and face judgment.

In Matthew 3:10-12, John the Baptist emphasizes that every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. This metaphor signifies the distinction between true believers, who will exhibit a life of good works, and those who are not genuinely saved, likened to chaff destined for destruction. Jesus reinforces this in John 15:4-5, where He states that branches must abide in the vine (Christ) to bear fruit. Without this vital connection, spiritual fruit cannot be produced. Therefore, a believer's life should manifest good works as evidence of their salvation and regeneration by the Holy Spirit.
