What does the Bible say about being a beggar before God?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that we are all beggars, entirely dependent on God's mercy and grace.

In Mark 10:46, the story of Bartimaeus the blind beggar illustrates that true humility comes from recognizing our desperate need for God's mercy. Theologians have long pointed out that our spiritual state mirrors Bartimaeus; we come to God empty-handed, understanding that on our own we have nothing to offer. This recognition of our need leads us into a posture of begging for mercy, as we can do nothing to merit God's favor. Until we are made aware of our true condition—unclean and blind—we cannot truly seek the grace that only God can provide.
