What does the Bible say about being a captive to sin?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that every person is by nature a captive to sin, much like the demoniac of Gadara, who was possessed and powerless to free himself.

In Mark 5, the story of the demoniac illustrates the condition of every child of Adam. Just as this man was tormented and held captive by numerous demons, so too is every person held captive by their own sin nature. Romans 3:11 states, 'There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God,' highlighting humanity's total inability to seek God or escape sin without divine intervention. This condition represents the helpless state of man, incapable of delivering themselves from the chains of sin.
