What does the Bible say about being a servant of sin?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible teaches that anyone who commits sin is a servant of sin (John 8:34), indicating a state of bondage that can only be broken by Christ.

In John 8:34, Jesus clearly states that 'Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.' This verse emphasizes the reality of sin as a master that enslaves individuals. The natural man, in his unregenerate state, is in bondage to sin, unable to liberate himself from its powerful grip. This bondage is not simply a lack of freedom but is characterized by being a bond-slave of sin, wholly under its dominion. It is only through the truth of Christ and the work of His grace that a person can be made free from this oppressive servitude, a freedom that is both spiritual and eternal (John 8:36).
