What does the Bible say about being fit for heaven?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible states that if we belong to Christ, we are already fit for heaven through His righteousness, not our own.

The Scripture teaches that our fitness for heaven is not based on our own merits or the length of our time on earth, but rather on our union with Christ. In Colossians 1:12, it is said that God has made us 'meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.' This indicates that believers are made worthy to inherit heavenly glory by virtue of the work of Christ and not by any personal improvement or righteousness. Therefore, the belief that living longer on earth can make one more fit for heaven contradicts the revealed truth that we were chosen and redeemed in Christ, making us already fit for heaven at the moment of our salvation.
