What does the Bible say about being freed from sin?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that those who are united with Christ are freed from sin's penalty and power through His death and resurrection.

In Romans 6:6-14, Paul explains that our identification with Christ's death means we are freed from the power of sin. This freedom is legal in nature, asserting that because Christ died for us, we too have spiritually died to the condemnation that sin brings. Verse 7 states, 'He that is dead is freed from sin,' indicating a complete justification before God. When Christ bore our sins and died, He also destroyed the old man, our connection to sin and death. This sets the foundation for our new life in Him, enabling us to live righteously, even while we still battle the influence of sin in our lives.
