What does the Bible say about being God's people?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that God's people are those whom He has chosen and loves, implying a special relationship defined by His grace.

The relationship between God and His people is emphasized in 2 Corinthians 6:16, where God declares, 'I will be their God and they shall be my people.' This statement highlights the unique bond that exists not merely as a creator to creation but as a sovereign Redeemer to His elect. We see that all souls ultimately belong to God by creation (Ezekiel 18:4), but those identified as God's people experience a deeper, redemptive bond that is unbreakable and rooted in sovereign grace. God chooses individuals not based on their merits but solely according to His will (Romans 9:15-16). Therefore, being God's people is a privilege granted out of His love and mercy.
