What does the Bible say about being sad as a Christian?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible acknowledges sadness but encourages believers to find hope in Christ, who comforts us in our sorrows.

The Bible speaks of the reality of sadness in the lives of Christians, as seen in Luke 24, where two disciples express sorrow after the crucifixion of Christ. Jesus asks them, 'Why are you sad?' which highlights that, although sadness is a human experience, it should not define the believer's state. The gospel offers comfort, reminding us that Christ is risen, and through Him, we have the hope of eternal life. The scriptures encourage believers to lift their eyes to God, who works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). In times of sorrow, Christians are reminded that their hope lies in the living Lord who reigns over all and can provide peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7).
