What does the Bible say about believing in God but not being a Christian?

Answered in 1 source

Believing in God does not equate to salvation; even demons believe but are not saved.

The Bible distinguishes between mere belief and true faith that leads to salvation. In Mark 9:23-24, the father declares, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.' This highlights that belief alone, while important, is insufficient for salvation. Many believe in God, His holiness, and even acknowledge their sin, yet lack a personal relationship with Christ. James 2:19 states, 'You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!' This shows that acknowledging God's existence is not enough for salvation, as it must be accompanied by a saving faith that leads to transformation and true discipleship.
