What does the Bible say about Christ as our scapegoat?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that Christ is our scapegoat, symbolically bearing our sins and carrying them away from us.

In Leviticus 16, we see a vivid representation of Christ as the scapegoat. The priest would lay his hands on the head of the scapegoat, symbolically transferring the sins of the people onto the animal, which was then sent away into the wilderness. This act illustrated how Christ bore our sins on the cross, as noted in Psalm 103, where God removes our sins as far as the east is from the west. The sacrifice of the scapegoat points directly to the redemptive work of Christ, who, through His suffering, has taken our iniquities upon Himself and removed them from our sight forever.
