What does the Bible say about Christ's suffering and death?

Answered in 3 sources

Christ suffered and died as the perfect sacrifice, having done nothing wrong, to satisfy God's justice for our sins.

The Scriptures reveal that Christ's suffering and death were essential for our salvation. Isaiah 53:9-10 highlights that He was buried with the wicked because He had done no violence and there was no deceit in His mouth. This profound injustice—an innocent man executed—demonstrates not only the malice of humanity but also the divine purpose for which He came into the world. As He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows, God the Father was pleased to crush Him as His soul became an offering for sin, fulfilling the requirement for satisfaction of God's justice. This selfless obedience and sacrifice were central to God's plan of redemption.
