What does the Bible say about Christ's suffering and travail?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's suffering is likened to a woman's travail, indicating the depth of His agony and the significance of His redemption.

The Scriptures portray Christ's suffering using the imagery of childbirth, highlighting both the intensity of His pain and the joyful outcome of salvation it produces. In Isaiah 53, it states, 'He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied,' indicating that His suffering was not in vain but led to the redemption of His elect. Throughout His life, He endured sorrows, becoming the man of sorrows, acquainted with grief, and this travail was both outward and inward as He bore the curse due to sin upon Himself. Just as a woman forgets her pain in the joy of a newborn, so Christ's pain leads to the joy of bringing many sons and daughters to glory.
