What does the Bible say about cleansing ourselves from sin?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible teaches that we can cleanse ourselves not by outward actions but through confession and the work of the Spirit.

In 2 Corinthians 7, Paul encourages believers to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. However, this cleansing is not achieved through our own efforts; rather, it's a work of the Spirit within us. According to 1 John 1:9, if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. True cleansing comes from recognizing our inability to perfect holiness on our own and turning to Christ, who perfects it in us. Paul emphasizes that the focus should be on the inner man, as external actions cannot bring true holiness.
